The difference between Donruss and Miller Press Golf

golfgasm April 27th, 2008

In 1981 and 1982 Donruss Golf produced some legendary golf sets that, to this day are very saught after.  This is because these sets contain some of the first true major release rookies and their condition sensitive nature lends itself to be very challenging for PSA set registry builders. In the latter part of 1982 Miller Press absorbed the rights to Donruss Golf and began production in 1983.  These cards were never released in packs.  They were available in whole sheets only from the factory or entire sheets/hand cut versions at key events on the tour such as the Buick Open and the Player’s Championship.  That is the reason you do not see so many of them.  Miller PGA Press produced cards and sets from 1983 - 1990.

You can actually go look at the population reports on PSA website and they have graded examples for almost every year under Miller Press.  Finding a complete set is quite rare as usually only single cards were given out as promotional items.  In 1990 another golf card initative was championed by the familiar ProSet cards and Miller/Donruss PGA Press cards were absorbed by them and stopped production.   ProSet fizzled out after 1992 and until the advent of Upper Deck and SP Authentic in 2001 we had a golf card dark ages.  If anyone else has any other information regarding Miller Press feel free to contact me.
